De Young Museum opens its doors
The de Young Museum’s grand opening begins at noon Saturday, with a 29-hour continuous celebration through 5 p.m. Sunday, and is free to the public all weekend.
From the Examiner, “There is something here for everyone. With three levels and 105,000 square feet of gallery and education space (twice the size of the old building), four entrances, wide connections between galleries, interior design specifically tailored to themes inspired by each collection, a two-story Museum Store and on-site café, diverse art and world-class pieces and outdoor gardens, the de Young has it all. And one-third of the museum is accessible without charge.”
The San Jose Mercury News has an article with a different slant, arguing that not everyone is pleased with the renovation or the design.
Details are also available on the de Young site.
