National Association of Realtors housing data for the Bay Area

The Research Division of the National Association of REALTORS®, has prepared “anti-bubble” packages for approximately 150 metropolitan areas throughout the nation. San Francisco-Oakland is one of those areas. The packages include a 10-page Home Price Analysis, along with a Q&A document. They are designed to help REALTORS® refute claims that a housing bubble exists for various markets. An examination of the package for San Francisco-Oakland will quickly reveal that the facts do not support the conclusion that a housing bust is in our future—not in the San Francisco-Oakland market and not for the nation as a whole.

Now, of course, this is coming from a completely biased source, but the facts are the facts… No national price declines since they started tracking housing in 1968, for example.

Take this information as you will, but it’s always nice to see a positive spin on the same news which the mass media has sounding so ominous…

  1. The attempt on the part of NAR to avert a panick in the market was a valiant one. For some areas it may have helped a bit, but when the Today Show announces that the real estate bubble has burst (They did this last month.) The market changes pretty quickly.
