Natural gas bills expected to rise 71%, PG&E says
In the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, PG&E is warning that gas bills will rise as much as 71% this month.
From SF Gate, “Americans dealing with record high gasoline prices caused by the hurricanes now also face the prospect of a painfully expensive home heating season. Utilities across the country are bracing their customers for increases ranging from 55 to 75 percent.”
“A typical home served by PG&E will spend an estimated $42.10 this month on natural gas, according to the San Francisco company. Last October, the average gas bill was $24.65, a level considered high at the time.”
