City museum boom reaches Civic Center
From today’s Examiner, “During the Gold Rush, San Francisco’s suddenly wealthy citizens clamored for entertainment from the bawdy to the classy and The City’s great tradition of performing arts was born. Hoping to draw on that history, officials announced Monday a plan to build a $35 million Museum of Performance and Design in the Civic Center area that will highlight dance, music and theater through interactive displays and archives.”
“David R. Humphrey, director of the San Francisco Performing Arts Library & Museum, which will merge with the new museum, said fundraising is “always a challenge” but “we feel we have a built-in constituency of those interested in performing arts and a crossover of those interested in visual arts.””
