Tallest condo tower in S.F. to start dig

From today's Chronicle, "San Francisco's tallest residential tower -- for now -- is scheduled to break ground next Thursday at the site of the old clock tower next to the Bay Bridge. One Rincon Hill will be a 709-unit luxury condominium complex with two slender towers rising 55 stories and 45 stories above the bridge entrance at First and Harrison streets."

"From a distance, the 550-foot condo building could even rival the 853-foot Transamerica Pyramid and 779-foot Bank of America tower, which are situated on much lower ground in the Financial District. However, in late 2008, another high-rise condo project -- a 645-foot tower now under construction at First and Mission streets next to the Transbay Terminal -- is set to come on line. That will put One Rincon Hill in second position among the city's residential skyscrapers."
