Voter-approved Prop. H funds start flowing to schools

From today’s Examiner, “San Francisco’s public schools are beginning to get new arts and music teachers, librarians, nurses, art supplies, athletic equipment and other educational extras approved by city voters 18 months ago. With the passing of Proposition H in March 2004, each year The City is slated to give the San Francisco Unified School District money for extra “enrichment” programs and other general education purposes. When fully phased in, the fund will dedicate approximately $60 million per year of The City’s general fund to public schools.”

“Next year, the district will receive double the amount of funds — up to $12 million. Currently, a community advisory committee is seeking public input on school needs before making spending recommendations to the school board.”
