Communities rally to save schools

From today’s Examiner, “Hundreds of concerned parents, students and teachers packed a public forum Wednesday night to plead on behalf of keeping schools open in their communities — the first of four meetings scheduled at sites around The City before San Francisco’s Board of Education makes final decisions on school closures and mergers Jan. 12.”

“Since November, district staff has provided the Board of Education with data on 20 schools that are not filling all of their classroom space, including a school’s academic performance, geography and its educational programs.”

“Last year, the school board also had to make tough school closure decisions and voted to close four schools.”

SFist covers what the Potrero Hill neighborhood is doing to try to save its schools, too.
