Tax Credit for New Home Purchase

This tax credit is available for qualified buyers who on or after March 1, 2009, and before March 1, 2010, purchase a qualified principal residence that has never been occupied. The buyer must reside in the new home for a minimum of two years immediately following the purchase date.

  1. So does this apply to new condos? It means single family attached, but I don’t know if that means condos or something else.

    If it doesn’t include condos it sure seems like yet another way the state government encourages sprawl over density.

  2. My understanding is that it will primarily be used for new home condo purchases (homes and condos being interchangeable here) as they are the majority of new home sales. Signature Properties was a key factor in getting this through the CA state budget and they have numerous condominium developments throughout the state struggling for sales.
